Moroccan Special Forces Train on Spanish Ship During US-Led Exercise in Ghana

Members of the Royal Moroccan Navy Special Intervention Unit simulated the assault of the Spanish ship Audaz during the American Flintlock exercises that took place in mid-March in a port in the city of Accra, Ghana.

In the images published by the Royal Moroccan Navy, we can see the Moroccan soldiers storming the Spanish navy patrol boat as part of the exercise organized by the United States to promote "defense diplomacy" between the participating countries. The exercise took place in the port of Tema (Accra) in Ghana, under the supervision and collaboration of the Spanish military, reports Vozpopuli.

Organized annually since 2006 by the United States Special Operations Command for Africa (SOCAFRICA), the Flintlock exercise takes place alternately in different nations of the Sahel. This year’s edition took place in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire from March 1 to 15, and brought together 1,300 soldiers from 30 different countries.

This is the first time that a ship has participated in these maneuvers. The Spanish patrol boat Audaz left the port of Cartagena in January and participated in the Obangame Express 23 exercise, made a stopover in Lagos (Nigeria), Pointe Noire (Republic of Congo) and Luanda (Angola), before joining Accra to take part in the Flintlock exercise.

According to the Defense Staff (EMAD), the exercise organized by SOCAFRICA aims to "improve transregional security cooperation in Northwest Africa, in order to strengthen the capabilities of allied nations in the region, improve the exchange of information and intelligence, and develop police cooperation in support of special operations missions".
