A Moroccan soon to be President of France?

Questioned by Franceinfo on Thursday, April 9, Karim Bouamrane has taken a step forward in his national ambitions. The mayor of Saint-Ouen stated that "without taboo, I can be a solution" for the 2027 presidential election. The elected official of Moroccan origin believes, however, that an official announcement would be "indecent" in the current context of chaos, preferring for the time being the search for a "maximum of gathering".

The socialist mayor displays a marked hostility towards the first secretary of the party, Olivier Faure, whose resignation he has demanded. Carrying a firmly anti-LFI line, he considers the Socialist Party to be "lagging behind" and denounces its inability to mobilize. For him, the political apparatus is getting lost in "kind of technocratic conclaves" instead of proposing a project capable of "making citizens dream".

This possible candidacy adds to an already long list of left-wing contenders, such as Jérôme Guedj, Marine Tondelier or François Ruffin. While a primary should theoretically be held in the fall to designate a single candidate, the process is generating strong internal opposition. Karim Bouamrane is positioning himself as an alternative to the other names in the running, including Raphaël Glucksmann and Boris Vallaud.
