Rising Star Karim Bouamrane Emerges as Potential Prime Minister Candidate

The name of the Franco-Moroccan Karim Bouamrane, PS mayor of Saint-Ouen since 2020, is among the names considered for the position of Prime Minister. Will he have the chance to be appointed by French President Emmanuel Macron?

In addition to Xavier Bertrand and Bernard Cazeneuve, Karim Bouamrane, 51, is also cited among the candidates considered for Matignon. Will he be appointed by Emmanuel Macron before August 28, the start of the Paralympic Games? "Karim Bouamrane can be one of the profiles of a future Prime Minister, because he is a local elected official, respected in the PS and he can speak to the right. But nothing is particularly engaged with him," says a close friend of the President. According to Le Figaro magazine, the mayor of Saint-Ouen has been noticed for having contributed to making France shine during the Olympic Games by making Saint-Ouen the host city for the Brazilian athletes. 100 days before the opening ceremony, he had promoted his city in the foreign press, notably in the New York Times.

This entrepreneur has a clear vision for his city and knows how to succeed. "The values of the left must [...] allow everyone to be the architect of their own life, to decide and not to suffer," he tells the French weekly. He aims to make Saint-Ouen a "start-up nation of the 93". These efforts have certainly seduced Emmanuel Macron who in 2021, compared Seine-Saint-Denis to California. On security issues, the PS elected official plays the card of firmness. His wish is that "France continues to remain in the next fifty years the economic power, and above all, the social democracy that it is". His concern? It is the "ability [of LFI] to communalize the country through the ethno-religious prism." An almost ideal profile for Macronie.

The French president should receive the heads of parties and parliamentary groups on August 23, and perhaps on August 26 if one day is not enough, before making his choice on one of the candidates, reports La Tribune. Who will be appointed by Emmanuel Macron - Xavier Bertrand, Bernard Cazeneuve or Karim Bouamrane? Answer before August 28.
