Moroccan Social Media Erupts with Calls to Boycott Spanish Goods Amid Diplomatic Tensions

Since May 23rd, many Moroccan internet users have been calling for a boycott of Spanish products. At the origin of these calls, the new tension between Morocco and Spain provoked by the emergency admission of Brahim Ghali, the Polisario leader, to a hospital in Logroño, under a false identity.
Spanish products are the subject of calls for boycott. At the helm, thousands of Moroccan internet users. They use their accounts in various languages and call for boycotting all products of Iberian origin, such as clothing, food, travel tickets or household appliances, etc. In other words, all consumer goods or services. "Don’t choose Spanish products", "For your holidays, avoid going to Spain"... The calls for boycott are flooding the web.
This is not the first time that Moroccan internet users have launched calls to boycott Spanish products. In 2018, it was specific brands of milk, water or fuel. As in 2018, these calls will have a negative impact on Spanish companies present in Morocco. It remains to be seen whether the Spanish authorities will be able to work earlier to thaw the current crisis in order to avert a difficult economic situation.
