Moroccan Soccer Team Evacuated from Guinea After Coup, Match Postponed

King Mohammed VI personally intervened in the departure of the Atlas Lions, blocked on Sunday by the military coup in Conakry. They should face Guinea on Monday in a match counting for the 2nd round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The Moroccan players left Guinea on Sunday evening thanks to the intervention of King Mohammed VI, said Mohamed Makrouf, a spokesman for the FRMF. The Moroccan delegation feared being blocked in Conakry following the remarks of the head of the special forces, Lieutenant-Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, who had announced the closure of land and air borders.
The match has finally been postponed "in order to ensure the safety and security of the players and to protect all the match officials," said the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The rescheduling of the match will be communicated "later", it is specified. It could take place at the Lansana Conté stadium, if in the meantime the situation returns to normal.
