Moroccan Singer Latifa Raafat Defends Iconic Hit "Khouyi" After Copyright Conviction

The day after her conviction for unauthorized interpretation of the copyright holders of the song "khouyi", Moroccan singer Latifa Raafat reacts.
"Khouyi is one of the songs I am proud of in my career as an artist. The song is over a quarter of a century old, and it was by singing it that I won the title of best Moroccan singer in 1985. It was written by the late Ahmed Taieb Laalej, composed by the musician Abdelkader Rachdi and produced by the company Adwae Al Madina," she wrote on Instagram.
She confides that it is a song listened to by Moroccans since its release, and that music lovers ask her to sing it whenever she is on stage.
This week, the Casablanca Commercial Court sentenced the singer to pay 2.41 million dirhams and 6,000 DH to the composer’s family who had filed a complaint against her.
