Moroccan Singer Faces Backlash After Comments on Ex-Husband Tamer Hosny

Moroccan singer Bassma Boussil is facing fierce criticism from Egyptian netizens after revealing the reasons for her separation from her ex-husband, Egyptian singer Tamer Hosny.

These netizens, mostly women, have attacked Bassma Boussil on social media, accusing her of tarnishing the image of her Egyptian ex-husband, whom she presented as an "unfaithful and narcissistic" man, while he contributed to her fame on the Arab scale and supported her in creating her cosmetics brand, which brings her substantial income. The Egyptian netizens also emphasize the contribution of their compatriot in the purchase of the singer’s personal property, the value of which is estimated at several million.

Moroccan personalities, including journalists and content creators, have come to the defense of Bassma Boussil. Through a vast solidarity campaign, they have expressed their support for the Moroccan singer, denouncing "the bias of certain women who defend a man simply because he belongs to their country or because he is famous, to the detriment of a woman who has complained of suffering from narcissism and a toxic relationship, a problem that the majority of women in the Arab world suffer from."

During an intervention in the Andi Soual program broadcast on the Al Mashhad channel, Bassma Boussil said she regretted marrying Egyptian singer Tamer Hosny at the age of 19. "Love dazzled and blinded me, and it made me lose myself," she said, swearing that she would not go back to her ex-husband, despite the reconciliation attempts initiated by relatives. The Moroccan singer added that this marriage affected her personality, destroyed her self-confidence and erased her dreams.

"I was destroyed, I lived under sedatives, my life had collapsed. I slept 20 hours straight and cried for whole days. Without the presence of my father in my life, I would have committed suicide a long time ago," she confided, before continuing: "Because of my young age, I believed that love meant that the woman had to obey her husband in everything, even to the point of losing her own personality. This is a dangerous thing: no woman should accept that her husband takes control of her future and decides for her." Bassma Boussil officially announced her breakup with Tamer Hosny in April 2023, after 12 years of marriage. The couple has three children.
