Moroccan Singer Dounia Batma’s Family Refutes Prison Suicide Rumors

Rumors that Dounia Batma committed suicide in prison due to her psychological state are false, said the Moroccan singer’s sister.
"These are just rumors and Dounia is doing well, the statements must come directly from us," her sister denied, urging the press and the public not to believe the rumors and to only take information from the family.

A few days ago, the singer’s family posted on Instagram a video and photos of an old photo shoot, apparently done before Dounia’s incarceration, trying to put an end to the rumors announcing her suicide. In one of the new photos, the singer is seen in a mustard yellow Moroccan caftan. Her sisters, who manage her social media accounts, confirmed that she is doing well and that there is no truth to the rumor of her suicide.
Dounia had been sentenced to one year in prison and a fine of 10,000 dirhams in the "Hamza mon Bb" case. Last January, the judicial police brigade had arrested the singer in an apartment on Boulevard Moulay Youssef in Casablanca, where she had taken refuge after learning of the execution of the judgment against her. She had then been taken to the Oudaya prison in Marrakech to serve her sentence. The singer had meanwhile requested a royal pardon. Her lawyers had taken legal steps in this direction, but the court had rejected the request. Dounia Batma should regain her freedom in January 2025.
