Moroccan Singer Dounia Batma Faces Potential Harsher Sentence as Prosecutor Appeals ’Hamza mon bb’ Case

Dounia Batma and the other defendants will not be able to claim a reduced sentence yet. The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Marrakech has just appealed and is demanding the aggravation of the sentence handed down at first instance against the defendants.
A few days after the court of first instance ruled on the Hamza mon bb case, the judgment has been appealed and the public prosecutor’s office, not satisfied with the judgment, has called for harsher sentences.
On July 30, the criminal chamber of the court of first instance in Marrakech sentenced singer Dounia Batma to 8 months in prison with a fine of 10,000 dirhams.
Her sister, Ibtissam, was sentenced to one year in prison and an equivalent fine. The 4 defendants were also ordered to jointly pay a lump sum compensation of 20,000 dirhams to the civil party.
