Moroccan Singer Dounia Batma Faces Hacking and Privacy Charges in Court Appeal

While the investigating judge had decided not to prosecute Dounia Batma for complicity in fraud, the criminal chamber of the Marrakech Court of Appeal rejected on Monday the appeal filed two weeks ago by the public prosecutor.
The defense’s request having been deemed inadmissible, the investigating judge decided to retain the charges of "participation in the hacking of the personal data processing system, and deliberate participation in obstructing the functioning of this system, by disrupting it and modifying the way it is processed."
Dounia Batma is also being prosecuted for "participation in the dissemination, through information systems, of statements and images of people without their consent, and dissemination of false facts with the intention of infringing on people’s privacy and defaming them."
Released on bail since the beginning of the trial, the Moroccan singer, who did not appear in court on Monday for health reasons, will have to appear on June 11 before the investigating judge.
