Moroccan Singer Alleges Discrimination in Festival Selection Process

Artist Chaimae Abdelaziz has denounced the policy of exclusion from festivals and cultural evenings of which she says she is a victim, calling on the Minister of Culture, Mehdi Bensaid, to put an end to this discrimination suffered by many artists.
Many artists complain of being excluded from artistic evenings and festivals, said Chaimae Abdelaziz, criticizing this exclusion of which she and some of her peers are the subject. The artist also questioned the selection criteria for the singers who perform on the festival stages, stating that most of the Moroccan artists who performed at the 2024 Mawazine Festival "have neither the voice nor the stage presence".
Talents and voice artists are very rarely called upon in Morocco, while they are sought after abroad, continued Chaimae Abdelaziz. "We have honored the Moroccan flag in other countries, and we are offered attractive offers abroad, but we refuse them, because our country must be our priority," assured the participant of the TV show The Voice.
