Moroccan Short Film "Should the Beasts Die" Advances to Oscar Shortlist

The film "Should the Beasts Die" by Moroccan director Sophia Alaoui has just been selected to compete for the 2021 Oscar for Best Short Film. The year 2020 has been exceptional for this film, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2020 Sundance Festival, and was nominated in the Best Short Film category at the 2021 Césars.
In a press release, the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM) welcomed the various distinctions won by "Should the Beasts Die", this short film, which was the only Moroccan film to participate in the international competition of the Sundance Festival in January-February 2020.
The film also participated in the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in February 2020, before participating in the National Film Festival in Tangier in February-March 2020, then the São Paulo International Short Film Festival in August 2020, and the Namur International Francophone Film Festival in October 2020. A meteoric rise for the film, which has just been nominated by the Academy of Oscars in the Best Short Film category to be held in April 2021.
"Should the Beasts Die" tells in the Amazigh language the story of Abdellah, a young shepherd and his father, who helplessly witness the death of their animals in the high Atlas mountains.
