Moroccan Scientists Sequence Local COVID-19 Genome in Breakthrough Study

A team of Moroccan academics has succeeded in deciphering the genome of the SARS-COV-19 virus, which arrived in Morocco in late March-early April of this year.
The Genoma project of the MedBiotech laboratory, supported by the ministry in charge of scientific research, has managed to analyze more than 3,000 COVID-19 genomes worldwide, aiming to decipher the code of the COVID-19 present in Morocco.
This operation was carried out thanks to a new technique introduced in Morocco by "Nanopore Oxford," said Pr Ibrahimi, previously based at "Stony Brook" University in New York, in a Facebook post.
The results of this analysis, which have shown the limits of the virus mutation, will be published in an international specialized journal, said Pr Ibrahimi, who added that they will contribute to making the ongoing treatments and vaccines more effective.
