Moroccan Salafist Leader Defends Nation’s Security Efforts Amid Pegasus Spyware Allegations

The Pegasus affair in which some organizations have made serious accusations of espionage against Morocco continues to be controversial. Mohamed Fizazi, one of the most media-savvy Salafist leaders in Morocco, said that "it is up to the media consortium to prove in accordance with the law the facts necessary for the success of its claims against Morocco".
In a long post on his Facebook page, Sheikh Fizazi stated that "any surveillance approach aimed at protecting the country from terrorism, drugs or maneuvers targeting its territorial integrity is useful". He praised the efforts of the Moroccan security services, "led by Abdellatif Hammouchi and his assistants".
Mohamed Fizazi believes that accusing Morocco of espionage is "another link in a long chain of hostility against Morocco". He adds that asking the Moroccan state to provide proof of its non-involvement in the Pegasus affair is an aberration. "The burden of proof lies with the plaintiff, actori incubit probatio".
He denounces a "media trial, unfounded and clearly fabricated to destabilize the deep diplomatic relationship between Morocco and France". He congratulates the Moroccan authorities for having decided on July 22nd to sue Amnesty and Forbidden Stories for defamation before the Paris Criminal Court.
