Moroccan Runners Advance to Olympic 3,000m Steeplechase Final

A glimmer of hope for the Moroccans competing in Tokyo. Athletes Soufiane El Bakkali and Mohamed Tindouft qualified, on Friday, for the final of the 3,000m steeplechase at the Olympic Games.
After the wave of elimination and disqualification, El Bakkali qualified by finishing first in the 3rd qualifying series in 8 minutes 19 seconds 00, ahead of Finn Topi Raitinen (8 minutes 19 seconds 17) and Frenchman Alexis Phelut (8 minutes 19 seconds 36).
As for Tindouft, he snatched his ticket by finishing 5th in the first qualifying series in 8 minutes 15 seconds 91. With this performance, he records the fourth best time of the qualifications.
No luck for the other Moroccan in the running, Mohamed Ben Zahra, who was disqualified after finishing 10th in the 2nd qualifying series in 8 minutes 28 seconds 63.
The 3,000m steeplechase final will be held on August 2. The two Moroccan athletes hope to make their mark.
