Moroccan Runner Clinches Silver in 5,000m at Islamic Solidarity Games

Moroccan athlete Mohamed Fares offered Monday the first medal to Morocco as part of the Islamic Solidarity Games taking place in Turkey.
Mohamed Fares wins the silver medal by finishing second in the 5,000m final with a time of 13min 54sec 0/100. He was beaten by Bahraini Birhanu Balew who clocked 13min 51sec 6/100. The third place was taken by Ugandan Abel Chebet with a time of 13min 54sec 9/100.
Proud to have been able to honor his country, Mohamed Fares said in a statement to the press that he gave everything he could to reach this level. "The event was tactical and I tried to position myself well from the 2nd kilometer despite the wind that was hindering my progress."
"Although I am aiming for the first place on the podium, I remain satisfied with this result," he said. Moroccan Soufiyan Bouqantar was unable to make his mark. He finished 5th with a time of 13min 57sec 4/100.
