Moroccan Runner’s 1500m World Record Stands Unbeaten for 25 Years

Moroccan Hicham El Guerrouj set a record of 3:26.00 in the 1500 meters at the Golden Gala in Rome on July 14, 1998. A record that remains unbeaten to this day.
Hicham El Guerrouj set this world record in the 1500 meters 25 years ago with a time of 3:26.00, beating the record of the Algerian Nourredine Morceli set three years earlier, in 1995, with a time of 3:27.37, recalls Marca, adding that Bernard Lagat (3:26.34) in 2001 and Asbel Kiprop (3:26.69) in 2015 have tried, but failed to beat El Guerrouj’s record.
Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen is preparing again to put an end to El Guerrouj’s mythical record. He plans to do better than the 3:27.95 achieved at the Bislett Games in mid-June. With this time, he holds the European record, but his goal remains the world record. "I won’t be 100% satisfied until I’m the fastest in history," insists the one who is determined to beat El Guerrouj’s record.
