Moroccan Rights Group Urges Action on Widespread Birth Registration Errors

The Moroccan Organization for Human Rights (OMDH) has alerted the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, about the non-registration of newborns at their place of birth, urging him to find a permanent solution to this problem.
In a letter signed by its Secretary General, the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights informed the Minister of the Interior of this bad practice which consists in registering newborns at the home of their parents, rather than at their place of birth, as required by the law on civil status.
The organization says it has identified this problem in many douars, hamlets and rural areas where the lack of doctors and midwives is alarming. A difficulty that adds to those related to the remoteness of administrative services from the homes of the parents, they note, calling on the authority to find a permanent solution to this problem.
