Moroccan Regulator Warns Medi 1 Radio Over Hidden Advertising Violations

Sunday 20 October 2019, by Bladi.net

After Luxe Radio and 2M, Medi 1 Radio is in the dock at the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA) for having "violated the legal and regulatory provisions in force, in particular, those relating to sponsorship and hidden advertising". This is the decision of the Superior Council of Audiovisual Communication (CSCA) of the HACA.

Following the news broadcasts on August 8 and September 9 on the radio waves of Medi 1 Radio, the CSCA decided to issue a warning to Medi 1 Radio, for these facts that are being blamed on it.

This decision is motivated by the finding in these news broadcasts of "failures to comply with the legal and regulatory provisions applicable to audiovisual communication and relating to hidden advertising".

Before this decision, requests for explanations were sent to the media concerned, which provided response elements.

Taking note of the radio’s response to this request for explanations, the CSCA considered that during these news programs, two commercial brands were named and presented "with complacency, repeatedly and outside advertising screens".

Moreover, it recalls that the promotional presentation of the services of these two brands could mislead listeners about the nature of the content due to the confusion between information and advertising.
