Moroccan Regulator Shuts Down Iflix Streaming Service Over Compliance Issues

Iflix is no longer available in Morocco. The video streaming platform is no longer allowed to offer its services following the withdrawal of its accreditation by the audiovisual sector authority.
Iflix Maghreb will have only spent four years in Morocco before being forced to pack up on the decision of the Higher Council for Communication and Audiovisual. This VoD platform active in Asia and the MENA region is accused of failing to meet its reporting obligations to the Commission. Despite several reminders, the operator did not want to comply, leaving total uncertainty about the management of its activities in Morocco, reports LesEcos.ma.
Interestingly, the report of a bailiff dated July 9, 2019, indicated that the operator seems to have changed address without notifying the supervisory authority. The bailiff had stated that he had found the manager of another company at these premises, who refused to acknowledge receipt of the Commission’s notification.
Given such shortcomings, the commission withdrew the accreditation of Iflix Maghreb. In addition to the cases mentioned, the note in the official journal points out that to provide the distribution of the audiovisual service on the national territory, Iflix had to pay the sum of 500,000 dirhams excluding tax and pay 5% of its annual turnover. Commitments that seem never to have been honored.
