Moroccan Rapper Miss Raisa Removes Hijab, Cites Personal Choice and Societal Pressure

Moroccan rapper Miss Raisa has decided to no longer wear the veil. The one who now lives in Barcelona explains on her social networks the reasons that led her to make this decision.
Miss Raissa wore the veil for many years before deciding to remove it permanently, feeling that she does not "represent a community". "I don’t represent anyone," the young Muslim woman explained on her social networks, adding that wearing the veil did not allow her to fulfill certain expectations and satisfy certain requirements.
During all these years when she wore the veil, she says she suffered criticism from many Muslims who reproached her for not being worthy of wearing the veil as a rapper. She even claims to have received threats from the community she was supposed to represent.
For Miss Raissa, the veil does not determine whether you are a good Muslim or not. The most important thing, according to her, is to be a good person, without distinction of religion and nationality. The rapper also specified that this decision is personal and that she is not seeking anyone’s approval. All she asks for is peace and quiet.
Her real name is Imane Raissali, Miss Raissa was born in Tangier, Morocco in 1996 and has lived in Barcelona since the age of eight. In her songs, she defends women’s rights and promotes her culture.
