Moroccan Rapper Faces Legal Action for Alleged Insults to King in Song Lyrics

A complaint has been filed by an association based in Meknes against rapper Weld Lgriya, for insults and blasphemy.
According to the complaint filed with the Prosecutor of the King near the court of first instance of Meknes, the song "Long live the people" (Aach al chaab, in dialect), is composed of words that are detrimental to the King. According to the complaint, Weld Lgria would also have attacked André Azoulay, the advisor to Mohammed VI, whom he accuses of being Jewish, reports barlamane.com.
The association recalls in its complaint that an 18-year-old high school student was sentenced by a Meknes court to three years in prison, after reposting the lyrics of the song "Long live the people" on Facebook. It therefore expects the artist to receive a sanction commensurate with the offense.
Rapper Weld Lgriya explained on December 31 that the song "Long live the people" (Aach al chaab, in dialect) is mainly aimed at "corrupt officials", as well as the government, "powerless in the face of the scale of the crises facing society", indicates the same source.
