Moroccan Prosecutor Denies Kidnapping Claims, Confirms Arrest of YouTuber Chafik Omerani

The Prosecutor of the King at the Criminal Court of First Instance in Casablanca stated in a press release that the information that circulated on social networks about the kidnapping of Chafik Omerani is unfounded.
The YouTuber was wanted for publishing a series of videos containing insults to constitutional institutions, constituted bodies and public officials, the King’s Prosecutor said in a statement.
According to the magistrate, Chafik Omerani was arrested on February 6, 2021 and placed in custody. In his statement, the prosecutor stressed that Mohamed Omerani, the brother of the person concerned, was informed of this procedure.
What some are agitating on social media as a kidnapping is therefore an arrest within the framework of a case pending before the courts, it is argued. The investigation continues, under the supervision of the competent Prosecution and in strict compliance with legal procedures, it is further written.
