Moroccan Port Police Under Investigation for Alleged Cigarette Smuggling

Two police officers stationed at the port of Tanger Med have been the subject of a judicial investigation since Wednesday, for their alleged involvement in a case of cigarette trafficking.
The investigation was initiated by the judicial police of Tanger following a malfunction observed during the control of an international transport truck, loaded with contraband cigarettes and a stowaway, indicates a statement from the DGSN, which specifies that the two police officers would have let the cargo pass at the level of their control post.
It was after viewing the surveillance camera images that the DGSN decided to investigate the two police officers at the first control post, the same source points out.
The search of the vehicle during the last control point before boarding to Europe, made it possible to seize nearly 1500 cartons of cigarettes and to arrest the truck driver, as well as the stowaway. They were placed in custody for the purposes of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office, in order to determine any accomplices in this case.
