Moroccan Population in Spain Surges to 812,000, Leads Foreign Residents

Moroccans are, by far, the largest foreign community in Spain, according to the latest statistics just published by the Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE).
As of January 1 this year, there were just over 812,000 of them legally residing in the country, up 5.4% from last year’s figures. They come ahead of Romanian nationals (669,434), then British (249,015), Italians (227,912), Chinese (224,372), Venezuelans (137,589) and Ecuadorians (131,67).
Spain now has, still according to these statistics, 47 million inhabitants, in continuous increase for 3 years, after having known a decrease during the economic crisis that had hit the country from 2008. However, this increase is mainly due to the increase in legally established foreign nationals in the country (+6.1%).
According to the INE, Spain officially has a little over 5 million foreigners, which represents a little more than 10% of the population. 1.8 million of these foreigners come from the European Union countries.
