Moroccan Pop Star Saad Lamjarred Teases New Music Despite Ongoing Rape Trial

The legal proceedings facing singer Saad Lamjarred in no way undermine his reputation or morale. He remains one of the favorite artists of Morocco.
"I miss you. I’m preparing a surprise for you. See you soon!", the singer writes on Instagram, followed by the Arabic hashtag #الله_ينصر_سيدنا (May God protect our master [King Mohammed VI, editor’s note]). This short text is accompanied by a smiling photo of him. Saad Lamjarred, who faces a 20-year prison sentence, seems to see the bright side of things.
Last January, the Court of Appeal, in a ruling, referred the singer back to the Assize Court for the alleged rape of Laura Prioul, 23, at the Marriott Hotel in Paris on October 26, 2016. The court had thus overturned the order issued in April 2019 by the investigating judge, who had reclassified the facts as sexual assault and violence.
Although this case has been going on for three years, the singer has always enjoyed the support of his fans in Morocco and elsewhere. They listen to the tracks of the interpreter of Lemen nechki without moderation. Last December, he had given a sold-out concert. Saad Lamjarred had bewitched the audience with his superb voice.
