Moroccan Police Officer Seeks Asylum at Spanish Border in Ceuta

A Moroccan police officer presented himself on Monday at the Tarajal border post, between Morocco and Ceuta, to request political asylum.
Sources consulted by El Faro de Ceuta indicated that a Moroccan police officer requested political asylum at the border of Ceuta with Morocco. Border agents informed the authorities of this unusual request, the same sources add, specifying that the Moroccan police officer’s case is being studied by the competent services.
This is not the first time a member of Moroccan security forces has requested asylum in Ceuta. In July 2021, members of the kingdom’s auxiliary forces swam to the autonomous city to seek asylum. Identified as such by the Spanish national police, they attempted to deny it. In September 2024, the Moroccan press reported that a member of the Auxiliary Forces was arrested in Tangier while trying to reach Ceuta by jet ski.
Moreover, the case of another agent involved in drug trafficking via the Tarajal border was revealed in September 2019. The Spanish justice system had convicted the Spanish citizen who collected hashish packages at the border that were conveyed to him by the member of the Moroccan auxiliary forces. The kingdom’s authorities have not reacted to this case.
