Moroccan Police Bust Major Drug Ring, Seize Nearly 4 Tons of Cannabis and Weapons

A criminal network active in the international drug and psychotropic trafficking was dismantled, on Saturday, by the security services in northern Morocco. 3.729 tons of cannabis resin were also seized by the police.
The Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) said in a statement that the operation was carried out around Driouch, about 90 kilometers from the city of Nador. In addition to the seizure of 3.729 tons of cannabis resin, a hunting rifle, 7 vehicles including one with Spanish license plates, the security interventions also led to the arrest of four individuals who would be involved in this criminal network.
Pending the results of the preliminary investigation opened under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office, the accused were placed in custody.
Despite the situation the Morocco is going through and which imposes a certain restriction, the traffickers are redoubling their efforts and drug seizures are multiplying. On Friday, October 2, the security services in the city of Agadir managed to thwart an attempt to traffic 1.1 tons of cannabis resin transported on board a road freight truck.
According to an official report, nearly 179 tons of cannabis resin were seized in Morocco in 2019.
