Moroccan Police Bust International Jewelry Trafficking Ring, Brazilian Victim Loses $6 Million

The elements of the judicial police of Casablanca have succeeded in dismantling an international network of diamond and other high-value jewelry trafficking active in Morocco, Egypt and Gulf countries. The victim, a Brazilian, from whom more than 60 million dirhams in jewelry were stolen. The mastermind of the gang was arrested while the other members are still on the run.

This network is led by a Moroccan. He had gone to Brazil to buy jewelry from a Brazilian jeweler using the technique called "samaoui", reports Assabah. Once the deal was concluded, he received merchandise worth 21 million dirhams and promised the Brazilian to pay him after selling it on the international market.

Once in Casablanca, he again contacts his supplier. This time, he places an order for diamond pieces and asks the Brazilian to send the merchandise to an address in Egypt. The delivery was effective. The Moroccan recovers the merchandise a few days later. With his accomplices, he sold it on the black market in the Gulf countries. The sale generated 37 million dirhams. But the Moroccan will no longer keep his promise. He and his accomplices disappear from the radar and break off all contact with the supplier.

Worried, the Brazilian goes to Morocco where he will file a complaint with the Casablanca Court of Appeal with the support of an Egyptian witness. The latter had participated in the last delivery in Egypt. The investigation was entrusted to the judicial police of Sidi Bernoussi who succeeded in arresting the Moroccan last Thursday. After being placed in custody, his referral to the Attorney General of the King near the Casablanca Court of Appeal, a committal order was issued against him.

For the time being, the police are continuing their investigations in order to arrest his accomplices.
