Moroccan Police Arrest Teen Suspected of Planning Terror Attacks in Spain

The Moroccan police announced this week the arrest, in the north of the country, of a young man in his twenties, for belonging to a terrorist group. The statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) was short on details, but the Spanish press, citing police sources, lists exactly what he is accused of.

At 19 years old, the young man apparently administered at least 70 groups on social networks and in electronic messaging, then intended to carry out terrorist attacks in Spain. "In his publications, he has shown total affinity with the postulates of the Islamic State, as well as a permanent fixation to carry out terrorist attacks on Spanish territory, claiming that it is a country of infidels," writes the Spanish Ministry of the Interior in a statement.

On these groups and channels, the young man had disseminated several thousand videos and photos related to "Daesh", whether it was training, bomb making, weapons handling or combat techniques, the same source specifies.

In addition to this propaganda activity, he had forged links with terrorists in the Syria-Iraq zone, with whom he exchanged manuals, tutorials and procedures to carry out suicide attacks.

"With this arrest, an important element of the expansion and dissemination of the jihadist ideology has been neutralized, given the synchronization of the detainee’s activity, through the Internet, with the propaganda strategy developed by the Islamic State," the Spanish Ministry of the Interior still rejoices.

For this institution, the joint action of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) of Morocco and the Guardia Civil highlights the close cooperation and commitment of the two countries in the fight against terrorism.
