Moroccan Police Adopt BolaWrap: New Non-Lethal Restraint Device

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) announced the use, starting in mid-June, by the Moroccan police of a new equipment. It is the ejectable lasso BolaWrap, presented as a less dangerous and less painful alternative to the taser.
The American device, composed of a Kevlar cord (the material that makes up bulletproof vests), is intended to wrap around the target of the police officers to deprive them of their movements, a DGSN statement said, specifying that it will gradually be added to the arsenal of Moroccan police officers.
Also called a "remote handcuff," this new gadget will allow DGSN agents to control a remote, dangerous individual for others or for himself, while avoiding injuring him.
However, the generalization of this equipment will take place after the completion of the necessary technical experiments, the same source points out, citing a DGSN source. Thus, BolaWrap will be used by the prefectures of Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier and Fez, as well as by the National Brigade of Judicial Police (BNPJ).
