Moroccan Plastic Surgeon Dr. Hassan Tazi Denied Release in Human Trafficking Case

Friday 14 April 2023, by Sylvanus

The famous plastic surgeon Dr Hassan Tazi, owner of the Chifaa clinic, will not leave the Oukacha prison, where he is incarcerated for, among other things, human trafficking and abuse of weakness. His request for release has once again been rejected.

Dr. Hassan Tazi remains in prison. This is the decision of the criminal chamber of the court of first instance in Casablanca, which on Thursday, April 13, rejected his request for provisional release and that of his wife and six other individuals, reports Hespress. They are all being prosecuted for human trafficking, fraud and forgery and use of forgeries in connection with medical care bills. In April 2022, the chamber of the Casablanca Court of Appeal had made the same decision.

Last month, the criminal chamber of the Casablanca Court of Appeal had upheld the complicity in fraud and the falsification of commercial documents and their use. The investigating judge had previously dismissed these charges. The last confrontation between him and an intermediary dates back to December 15, 2022, regarding an amount of money intended for a surgical operation for a member of his family.

Dr. Tazi, his brother, his wife and other persons are separately accused of human trafficking, exploitation of the vulnerability of persons for commercial purposes, fraud against benefactors acting in good faith, falsification of treatment bills and medical records, exploitation of minors suffering from chronic illness, forgery and use of forgeries and the constitution of a criminal gang.

The next hearings will be held in the presence of the accused, unlike the first hearing which was held by videoconference.
