Moroccan Phosphate Giant OCP Targets 100% Renewable Energy by 2028

With 86% green energy coverage, the Office chérifien des phosphates (OCP) hopes to fully cover its needs by 2028. It is in this context that the group launched a call for tenders last July for a 258 MW solar project.
Created in 1920, the Moroccan group OCP is the world’s leading exporter of phosphates. By 2028, it plans to achieve 100% green energy coverage, to support the energy transition in which Morocco has embarked, with the ambition of drawing 52% of its electricity needs from renewable energies.
With the expansion of its activities, the group intends to support the fight against pollution and ozone layer degradation. "As responsible custodians of the world’s largest phosphate reserves, a vital element for all plant, animal and human life on earth, we have a responsibility to act as sustainably as possible. Our goal is to meet the growing demand for phosphate while at the same time reducing our environmental impact," the company emphasizes.
