Moroccan Phosphate Giant OCP Launches $37 Million Football Development Subsidiary

The competent Moroccan authorities have just authorized the OCP group to create a new subsidiary dedicated to the development of football.
The authorization, issued by the National Agency for Strategic Management of State Participations, was published in the Official Bulletin of January 15, 2024. An amount of 370 million dirhams, of which 60% from its own or semi-autonomous resources and 40% from bank loans, will be mobilized for the establishment of this new OCP subsidiary called "OCP Sport Development".
The new entity will be created with an initial capital of 39 million dirhams and will have the mission of contributing to the implementation of the royal guidelines in the field of sport in general and football in particular, reports Le Matin. Specifically, it will work to set up quality and high-level training centers and academies, and to uncover young talents.
In summary, the OCP subsidiary will contribute to creating a new model for the development of professional football. OCP Sport Development will operate in the cities of Khouribga, El Jadida and Safi, close to the group’s industrial and mining sites. It will carry out all its activities under the supervision of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. Its objective, to achieve an internal rate of return of 54% over a period of 25 years.
