Moroccan Phosphate Giant OCP Expands into Animal Feed with Spanish Acquisition

The Moroccan group OCP has made great strides in diversifying into phosphates through the signing on September 26 of a definitive agreement under which it acquires 50% of GlobalFeed S.L., a company based in Huelva, from Fertinagro Biotech S.L. The latter is a Spanish fertilizer producer.
In a press release, the Moroccan group OCP says it is convinced that this operation will contribute to its strategy "aimed at growing in the animal feed phosphates market, by geographically expanding its presence and offering a diversified and innovative product portfolio." "This acquisition confirms OCP’s objective to diversify into phosphates and become a leading player in the animal feed sector, by meeting growing demand and expanding its offerings with sustainable specialty and customized products," assures Marouane Ameziane, Managing Director Specialty Products and Solutions of the group.
"This even closer alliance with OCP will accelerate our industrial capabilities and market growth, providing farmers with better access to our cutting-edge technologies and the most reliable phosphate-based nutrition alternatives on the market," says Javier Martin, CEO of GlobalFeed. The same press release also states that this equity stake remains subject to the usual suspensive conditions, including regulatory approvals.
GlobalFeed is a company based in Huelva. It "operates in the animal nutrition segment, manufactures and distributes a wide range of products, including phosphate-based commodity products and premium and high-value-added solutions for several species." It "has flexible production units located in Huelva, Spain, with a capacity of 200,000 tons for phosphate-based products and 30,000 tons for iron sulfate products, and benefits from a wide international commercial presence," it is specified.
