Moroccan Orphan’s Handmade Carpet Sells for 80 Times Original Price in Instagram Auction

The supervisor of the Yatimi application managed in 24 hours to sell at a high price the carpet of a young orphan living near [Azilal]. Purchased for 250 dirhams, the 0.9 by 1.3 meter carpet was auctioned off on Instagram for 20,000 dirhams.
While Jalal Aaouita was visiting a Yatimi charity center in Azilal, a little girl asked him to accompany her to the souk. She wanted to sell a carpet she had made for 250 dirhams.
"I bought the carpet from her and put it up for sale on Instagram. Just to see the reaction of the bidders. I was surprised to see that the bids started very high, reaching 15,000 dirhams in a few hours," he said, before adding "finally the carpet was sold that same evening to a buyer from Rabat for 20,000 dirhams".
The young man thought of investing this money in the future of the little girl, giving her 2,500 dirhams and handing over the remainder to an investor in the region who will be willing to grant her an annual scholarship.
Yatimi, a digital application dedicated to the remote monitoring and care of orphans in Morocco, has several charity centers that provide year-round medical and social coverage.
