Moroccan-Origin Spanish Lawmaker Faces Racist Slurs at Parliament Protest

ERC deputy of Moroccan origin, Najat Driouech, was subjected to racist insults on Thursday from supporters of JxCat president Laura Borràs, who were demonstrating in front of the parliament building to protest her suspension. An act she considers "intolerable".
"Hatred cannot have a place in our society. Nothing justifies it, not even ideological difference," denounced Friday the deputy Najat Driouech, condemning the racist attacks she was the victim of the day before. As she was leaving parliament, she encountered a group of people demonstrating and who hurled racist attacks at her such as "Damn Moor."
In an open letter, Driouech criticized this "intolerable" act in the "Spanish Republic to which [she] aspires." "The party I represent does not accept racism," she stressed, calling on those who have "political and social responsibilities" to fight against racism, which is still current and is much noticed on social networks.
