Moroccan Opposition Leader Slams Foreign Minister's Pro-Israel Stance

The Party of Justice and Development (PJD) still views the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel in a bad light. Its Secretary General Abdelilah Benkirane criticized the Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita after the latter "defended the Zionist entity" during meetings with African and European officials.

Abdelilah Benkirane is not happy with Nasser Bourita. He reproaches him for having defended Tel Aviv during a meeting with the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, last week. During this meeting, the Moroccan Foreign Minister spoke of the tripartite regional cooperation and the "opportunities it offers for development between Morocco, the European Commission and Israel," reports Middleeastmonitor.com. An approach that is not to the liking of the PJD boss.

"While the Israeli occupation continues its criminal aggression against our Palestinian brothers, especially in Nablus, the Moroccan Foreign Minister appears as a defender of Israel," he fumes, emphasizing "the national position that considers the Palestinian cause at the same level as our national cause." According to Benkirane, the religious, historical and humanitarian duty requires redoubling efforts in this critical phase to defend "Palestine and Jerusalem in the face of the escalation of Zionist provocations and aggressive practices".
