Moroccan Ombudsman Sees Surge in Overseas Complaints, Report Shows

Out of the 1,431 cases handled by the Mediator of the Kingdom in 2019, one third came from Moroccans residing abroad (MREs), for a total of 461 complaints filed.
In total, 5,843 cases were submitted to the autonomous national institution in 2019, three quarters of which were deemed inadmissible. In its latest report, the Mediator of the Kingdom indicated that only complaints related to the justice sector were retained.
In the reported data, Moroccans of the world top the ranking of complainants with 461 cases, followed by vulnerable people (425), prisoners (235), widows and people with disabilities, with 198 and 153 complaints respectively.
Eager to benefit from the services of the Institution, foreign nationals also submitted 53 requests, the report points out. The French come first with 11 cases, followed in descending order by Egyptians, Syrians, Algerians and Palestinians.
