Moroccan Ombudsman Report Reveals Rising Complaints Against Justice and Interior Ministries

Many Moroccans say they are more dissatisfied with the action of justice and the interior than with that of other sectors. This is evidenced by the many complaints addressed to the Ombudsman’s Office of the Kingdom in 2019.

The 2019 annual report of the Ombudsman of the Kingdom indicates that 5,843 complaints were recorded, of which 3,339 were considered admissible, an increase of 22% compared to the previous year. Moroccans complain the most about the justice and interior sectors, followed by the local authorities and elected councils, education and finance sectors. Complaints from 5,790 Moroccans were recorded, the others were filed by foreign residents, mainly French and Egyptians. 77% of the complaints filed by individuals come from men.

The Ombudsman of the Kingdom resolved 5,117 cases in 2019, reports the Arabic-language newspaper Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. Similarly, the institution initiated meetings with the main administrations concerned by the complaints, during which 202 recommendations were made. By region, Casablanca-Settat is at the top of the cities whose citizens have filed the most complaints. This is explained by the density of its population, as well as its status as the economic capital of the country. This region is followed by Laâyoune and Meknes.

Submitted to King Mohammed VI, the report of the Ombudsman of the Kingdom contains ten parts covering the cases recorded at the Institution in 2019, the cases processed, the main dysfunctions of the administration identified that year, the proposals and the special reports carried out during the year and the statistical indicators on the processing and management times of requests.
