Moroccan Olympic Champion Nawal El Moutawakel Elected to IAAF Council

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) recorded, on Wednesday, September 25, the entry of a newly elected member of the Council, Nawal El Moutawakel. This choice made on the former Moroccan champion is only justice for her activism and her dedication to the cause of this discipline.
Good news for Morocco. Nawal El Moutawakel has been elected as a member of the Council of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) on Wednesday, September 25.
Thanks to this election, the President of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Coordination Commission is now one of the 13 elected members of the IAAF Council, during the instance’s congress in Doha (Qatar).
According to the MAP, this election takes place two days before the World Athletics Championships, which will take place in the same city, from September 27 to October 6, 2019, with the participation of 17 Moroccan athletes.
Member of the Executive Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since June 2019, the legend of Athletics, El Moutawakel, was the first Moroccan, Arab and African woman to win an Olympic gold medal at the Los Angeles Games in 1984. Since her retirement, she has held various positions in global bodies.
