Moroccan Olive Oil Prices Soar as Climate Change Slashes Production

In Morocco, olive oil production has dramatically declined this year, causing prices to soar. Professionals in the sector are alarmed.
Olive oil production is plummeting. After a very difficult year, the olive trees did not bloom, warns the Regional Association of Olive Growers of the Marrakech-Safi region in a letter addressed to the regional directorates of the Ministry of Agriculture. This drop in production is mainly due to climate change, which has led to a lack of irrigation, rainfall deficit and heat, explains the president of the Moroccan Interprofessional Federation of Olive (INTERPROLIVE), recalling that the heat recorded in recent years, even during the winter and autumn, has greatly impacted olive oil production.
