Moroccan Officials Face Audit Scrutiny: Marrakech and Safi Region Leaders Summoned

The noose is tightening more and more around elected officials and municipal employees, discredited during audits carried out by experts from the Court of Auditors. A summons has been addressed to the presidents and municipal employees of the Marrakech and Safi region.
According to the site Kech24, the officials of the communes of Tamelalt, Atamna and Drouz have been summoned to appear before the Regional Council, while the hearing of the former and current presidents of the Commune of Sidi bou Othmane has been set for November 19.
In addition, the current mayor of the city of Essaouira is expected on November 10, a day after the hearing of his counterpart from Safi, a member of the Party of Justice and Development.
Several other officials have been summoned to appear this month before the Regional Council of the Court of Auditors. These include Tamanar, Agroud, Sidi Abdelmoumen, Ichmraren and Idouiran, all under the province of Essaouira.
The summons, the same source points out, follow the many irregularities found by the experts of Driss Jettou in the management of public finances.
