Moroccan Official Barred from Travel Amid Embezzlement Probe

The president of the Guelmin Provincial Council has been banned from leaving the national territory after presenting a French passport to the police instead of the Moroccan passport that was withdrawn from him by court decision. He is accused of financial embezzlement for which he was questioned by the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ).
It all started with a complaint filed by an association for the protection of public property, reports the daily Assabah. Reports from the Court of Auditors, the General Inspectorate of Finance and the Territorial Administration have confirmed the plaintiff’s suspicions. Other people, namely elected council presidents and entrepreneurs, are also involved in these embezzlement cases.
Among these files, there are contracts awarded to companies and relatives in violation of the regulations in force. To this are added other irregularities noted on the budgets reserved for day laborers and in the aid allocated to underprivileged families during the coronavirus period.
The Prosecutor of the King near the Court of Auditors, after taking note of the disputed files, presented the accused to the public prosecutor who will have to make the appropriate decisions.
