Moroccan Navy Seizes 13 Tons of Drugs in Mediterranean Bust

The Royal Moroccan Navy carried out a high-speed chase at sea on Friday to try to arrest drug traffickers. In their flight, the latter ended up throwing two tons of drugs into the sea, which were seized as well as the 11 tons found the same day in a villa in Tangier.
The Royal Moroccan Navy managed to thwart a drug trafficking operation by pursuing a speedboat in the Mediterranean waters, off the coast of Nador, a military source told the MAP. In their flight, the traffickers threw 64 packages of drugs estimated at about two tons into the sea. The drug cargo seized by the Moroccan coast guard was transferred to the Nador military base for the purposes of the ongoing judicial investigation.
The elements of a special gendarmerie force also proceeded on Friday to seize 11 tons of drugs in a villa in Tangier, belonging to one of the suspects involved in this case. The gendarmerie is continuing its investigation to determine the modus operandi of this alleged drug trafficking network. The seized drugs were loaded into a vehicle heading for Spain via the port of Tangier Med.
Last Monday, a large sum of money estimated at one billion euros was seized in an apartment in downtown Tangier, as part of the same case. On December 22, the Royal Navy also managed to prevent the trafficking of more than a ton of drugs packaged in 36 packages, off the bay of Al Hoceima. The drugs were being transported in a fishing boat by three people who were arrested.
