Moroccan Music Stars Protest Festival Exclusion, Demand Fair Selection

A wave of discontent is shaking the Moroccan artistic scene. Many singers have publicly denounced their exclusion from the summer festivals organized in several coastal cities of the country, particularly in the north.
Highly appreciated by the Moroccan and Arab public, rapper ElGrande Toto expressed his frustration on social media after being denied access to the stages of the festivals in Tangier and M’diq. He called on the organizers and the competent authorities, demanding more equity in the selection of artists.
This controversy is not isolated. A few months ago, singer SY Mehdi had already launched an appeal to the Minister of Culture, Mehdi Bensaid, to denounce the alleged practices of favoritism in the artistic sector. Many artists blame the minister for favoring certain names to the detriment of others, thus preventing the emergence of new talents.
Meanwhile, the summer festivals continue in the coastal cities, with the participation of artists such as Najat Aatabou, Douzi, Muslim and Rym Fikri, who had the chance to meet their audience this summer.
