Moroccan ’Mule Woman’ Dies in Tragic Accident at Ceuta Border Crossing

A Moroccan female carrier, commonly called a "mule woman", died around five o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, September 18, while waiting on the Moroccan side of the Ceuta border to enter this city through "Tarajal II".
The tragedy occurred when the woman, standing on the edge of the road, accidentally fell onto the breakwater, hitting her head against a stone. She did not survive her injuries, according to the Spanish media.
Her fellow unfortunates deplored the tragedy while denouncing the working conditions and inhumane treatment they suffer. For the Spanish media, these women, at the Tarajal II crossing point, often wait for hours with their carts and sleep under the stars, afraid to leave their post to keep their place.
"These are third world and inhumane conditions," the same sources specify, demanding the opening of an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy. This incident highlights the working conditions of these women who fight to survive and to provide for the means of their relatives by sacrificing long hours before obtaining a ticket to cross the "Tarajal II" border.
Incidents of this kind are unfortunately frequent, as thousands of them cross these Morocco-Ceuta border posts to sell their goods in Morocco while suffering the wrath of the Spanish authorities at the crossing points.
