Moroccan MPs Face Scrutiny Over Lavish Travel Expenses

MP Ghita Badroun (PAM), chairwoman of the thematic commission responsible for the evaluation of public policies related to preschool education, and her colleagues from the MP, USFP and Istiqlal, traveled to Oujda by plane and to Nador by limousine. A trip that must have cost the Moroccan taxpayer dearly.

There were 10 of them, including officials from the House of Representatives, to make this trip by plane and limousine, reports Assabah. This trip was not to the liking of the President of the House of Representatives, Habib El Malki, who makes the rationalization of expenses a priority. Some members of the chamber also disapproved of the attitude of these parliamentarians.

On the other hand, a source from the office of the House of Representatives believes that the air travel of the members of this commission does not constitute a waste of public funds at all. The same source took care to explain that "these parliamentarians were forced to travel by car in the provinces of Nador and Driouch. That’s why they mobilized the cars of the House of Representatives to carry out visits to several schools scattered in these regions".

These explanations did not fail to raise a relevant question from the Assabah colleague. He indeed asked him why these deputies had not chosen to make the entire trip by car. This question apparently annoyed this source from the office who replied bluntly: "see the Secretary General of the House of Representatives".
