Moroccan Mother's Christian Conversion Sparks Debate Ahead of Pope's Visit

At the age of 29 and the mother of a child, a Moroccan woman has not only confided in an online video that she has converted to Christianity, but she has also recounted her story.

Is the upcoming visit of the Pope related to this in any way? The timing is certainly the most opportune for such a revelation. Sarah, a 29-year-old Moroccan woman, has just revealed that she has become a Christian. She would have discovered her religion during her studies at the university.

"I met atheists, Salafists, Bahais. I realized that there was more than just Islam," she says in the Lalla Fatima magazine. Having since begun to do research, she found, as she herself says, that she was a Christian. "I’m not going to say I decided to become a Christian, but I found myself a Christian."

Sarah has certainly had some troubles after her conversion: "At first, my family had a lot of trouble understanding this. Sometimes they accused me of having sold my religion or even of having taken money to become a Christian." There, she wishes to name her one-month-old daughter "Julia" but she fears the authorities will refuse to "bless" such a foreign name. She also says she hopes that there will soon be places of worship for Moroccan Christians in Morocco. The Pope is certainly arriving... The timing could not be better for a request of this kind.
