Moroccan Military Fires on Drug Traffickers Near Sahara Defense Wall

Elements of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) fired on drug traffickers who were heading towards the prohibited military zone near the defense wall. In Tata, the separatists tried to exploit this incident to undermine the image of the kingdom. An investigation is underway.
Two motorcyclists tried to enter the prohibited military zone in the Akka region on May 20, but were stopped in their tracks, as the Moroccan soldiers neutralized them, reports the FAR Maroc forum on its Twitter account. These were two drug traffickers. Despite the summons from the Moroccan military patrol, they did not turn back.
"Applying the rules of engagement prescribed in such circumstances, the soldiers of the patrol fired on the two motorcyclists, targeting the lower limbs," the same source said. One of them was hit in the leg and succumbed to his injuries, while the second managed to escape without the quantity of drugs (120 kg) transported.
The separatists residing in the province of Tata tried to exploit this incident to undermine Morocco’s image. The royal gendarmerie had to open a judicial investigation.
